PLC – Siemens Simatic S7-200

3-day course

The Siemens Simatic S7-200 PLC course is designed for maintenance personnel whose task is to identify and solve problems with PLC processors using the functions of the Siemens STEP 7 MicroWIN programming software.

Target Group

The Siemens Simatic S7-200 PLC course is tailored for maintenance personnel tasked with identifying and resolving issues with PLC processors by utilising the functions of the Siemens STEP 7 MicroWIN programming software.

(Pre) Knowledge

To participate in the Siemens Simatic S7-200 course, knowledge of digital technologies and the Windows operating system is required.

Objective

The maintenance service often encounters equipment from different manufacturers. This course recognises that maintenance personnel cannot develop a thorough technical knowledge of all the equipment they are expected to care for. However, in order to diagnose the problem and then solve it, you need to have sufficient knowledge of the device and the installation.

When it comes to PLCs and programming terminals, the maintenance technician must be able to access various parts of the program and check the I/O status. Programming and documenting the program is of less importance. Maintenance technicians must be able to make minor changes to the program.

Problems usually occur during the installation itself and are subsequently reflected in the PLC. For example, a faulty sensor, a malfunctioning cylinder, etc. These errors can be verified through the programming terminal and the signal status can be presented dynamically. This procedure is necessary because technicians cannot always design their programs to register every possible fault and its possible cause.

The maintenance technician should therefore be able to perform the following interventions:

  • To identify if the PLC is still active and there are no communication errors with I/O or other connected PLCs.
  • Determine if the “suspect” unit signal appears in the correct reference PLC. A uniform approach should be applied here.
  • Install and run the programming terminal.
  • Make I/O signal status visible:
    • call a “suspicious” part of the program;
    • view timer and counter files.
  • A maintenance technician must be able to read documentation, understand the PLC structure, and know the most frequently used PLC instructions.
  • Create links or connections that change the terms of the program. Programming of the counter and time measurement is desirable.
  • Back up changes made to the program. The maintenance technician should also be able to create a backup of the program (the original) and upload it to the PLC.

Methods

ATS courses are delivered by highly qualified trainers with practical knowledge, either at ATS specialist training centers or in the workplace. An entrance interview may be held before the start of the course to help define the requirements of the participants and the company. The courses are enlivened by presentations (theory and examples) and practical exercises. ATS courses are interactive and trainers always strive to make the training content relevant to your situation.
