PLC – Siemens Simatic S7 SCL – TIA Portal

I69

2-day course

This course is intended for PLC programmers who want to learn how to program STEP 7 applications using SCL (Structured Control Language). SCL is the Siemens STEP 7 implementation for ‘Structured Text’ as defined in the IEC 61131 standard. The course takes place in the TIA Portal development environment.

Target Group

This course is intended for PLC programmers who want to learn how to program STEP 7 applications using SCL (Structured Control Language). SCL is the Siemens STEP 7 implementation for ‘Structured Text’ as defined in the IEC 61131 standard. The course takes place in the TIA Portal development environment.

(Pre) Knowledge

Participants are expected to have basic knowledge of SIMATIC control systems. Programming knowledge is a plus, but not a requirement.

Objective

First, the relationship between SCL, ‘Function Block Diagram’ (FBD), ‘Ladder Diagram’ (LAD) and ‘Statement List’ (STL) will be discussed. Special cases where it is appropriate to use SCL will be pointed out. The comprehensive structure of the SCL language, along with its test functions and diagnostic features, will be examined. Additionally, the application of complex structured variables will be covered.

Methods

The course is supported by a Powerpoint presentation and is conducted in the S7 program. The presentation is projected on a large monitor so that the trainee can better follow every step of the trainer. All necessary HW is available, such as input and output modules and processors. Each participant has a PC with the TIA Portal environment and a PLC installed.

The Course Content

  • When and why to use SCL? When not?
  • Creation of STEP 7 blocks – OB, FC, FB and DB in SCL
  • Selection functions: IF, CASE OF
  • Repeat function: FOR, WHILE, REPEAT
  • Control functions: EXIT, RETURN
  • Nested functions
  • Basic concepts of programming languages according to IEC 61131-3
  • Declaration of SCL variables
  • User data types: UDT
  • Using instance DBs in SCL
  • Debugging SCL resources

Important Note

The submitted training application is binding. Upon cancellation, we charge a handling fee of 30% of the price of the training. Upon check-out during the last 3 business days prior to the date of the event or non-attendance without prior withdrawal, we charge the entire subscription fee.
